Referrals & Admissions
We work in close partnership with local authorities, social workers and other professionals to provide stable, therapeutic residential care for children and young people. Who we care for
We care for children and young people aged 6 to 18 (the maximum age on admission is 17), of mixed gender, who may have experienced trauma, loss or disruption to their family relationships, and who may have difficulty regulating their emotions and behaviour. Many of the children we support have a diagnosis of autism, ADHD or other special educational needs (SEN), or require assessment.
All referrals are considered. We assess each child’s needs individually to make sure we can meet them within the staffing and structure of the home, and that any placement is a positive match for the child and for the young people already living with us. Where a child needs a higher level of support, additional staffing can be arranged.
As far as possible, all admissions are planned. We do not normally accept emergency placements, though in extreme circumstances an emergency admission may be considered. A planning meeting is held before admission, or within 72 hours of a child arriving, to agree the Placement Plan.
How to make a referral
- Initial enquiry — A placement enquiry is received by phone or email from a local authority or social worker and passed to the Registered Manager, who considers whether we can meet the young person’s needs and whether the home and its ethos are the right fit.
- Information gathering & informal visit — We gather further information from the professionals involved and consider compatibility with our current residents. We arrange an informal visit so the child and their family or carers can see the home, meet staff and get a feel for the place. We share our Statement of Purpose, Children’s Guide, costings and latest Ofsted report.
- Formal assessment — We offer a formal assessment, including a visit and an overnight stay, to establish the child’s needs and confirm we can offer a suitable placement.
- Care planning — We draft the child’s individual Care Plan, including risk assessments, an Individual Behaviour Management Plan and a Placement Plan.
- Admission — A start date is agreed, and the child is warmly welcomed with a Welcome Pack and a dedicated key-work team.
